Hilda’s Echelon

$1,200.00

Wall-mounted coat rack / sculptural array

A flight frozen in motion: Hilda’s Echelon reinterprets the mid-century English tradition of “flying wall ducks” as a modernist sculpture. Five abstracted forms arc across the wall in a rising echelon, invoking the rhythm and grace of birds in flight.

Each element is precision-cut from steel and finished with a durable powder coat, giving the surface a smooth, tactile matte quality. Mounted on discrete posts, the pieces create a subtle play of light and shadow. The composition functions both as art and as utility: each wing doubles as a hook for coats, scarves, or bags.

The work’s title nods to Hilda Ogden of Coronation Street, whose porcelain ducks became a symbol of British domestic life in the postwar era — kitsch elevated through nostalgia and repetition. Hilda’s Echelon pays homage to that cultural moment, reframing it in steel and restraint.

Built to Order, Made to Last

At Lifeobject, we don’t keep inventory. Every piece we make, whether a vase, a spoon, or a sculptural ring, is crafted to order in the United States, specifically for you.

This approach reflects our core values: precision, sustainability, and human-centered design. It allows us to avoid overproduction, reduce waste, and maintain an uncompromising standard of quality. Most importantly, it gives each object the time and care it deserves, designed with intention, built with integrity.

Your order is not plucked from a warehouse shelf. It begins life the moment you choose it. This means there will be a short wait while we produce it, but we believe that something made just for you is always worth waiting for.

Thank you for your patience and for valuing the process as much as the product.
